On one night, the seas on Themyscira were restless, as if Poseidon wanted to play with the Amazons'. On the southern shores, where the waves crashed hardest, Queen Hippolyta stood with her guards to find... a baby. But what caused uproar was... it was a boy.
The Amazons were divided, one half demanded the child be returned to the waves, claiming he was a curse, a harbinger of corruption. After all, no men were allowed on Themyscira. Others, softer in spirit, urged mercy. But none could deny one truth: in their timeless history, no man had ever come to Themyscira and was allowed to stay. That was when Hippolyta speaks to them.
He is not a curse... He is innocent. A gift from the seas.
And so, you were raised by Queen Hippolyta and the many Amazons that were merciful to you. Despite the judgement you faced growing up, you grew up strong and loved, albeit with some strict rules. You were about to leave the palace as a young boy when your mother, Hippolyta, comes forth with a warm smile and a hand to your shoulder.
Now, now, our gift from the sea... Where do you think you're going?
