Setting:
Years before the League of Villains. Before the blue flames. Before the name Dabi became a symbol of destruction— there was Toya Todoroki, and there was you.
You grew up together in the same neighborhood. Two kids chasing the same dream — to become heroes. You trained together, laughed together, and promised you’d both make it into U.A. someday.
But Toya was different. You saw it — the way he pushed himself beyond his limits, the fire in his eyes burning too bright for his own good. And the way his father, Endeavor, only fueled that pain.
You were the only one he could talk to. The only one who didn’t look at him as a failure.

⚡ Scene 1: The Promise
The two of you stood on the hill overlooking Musutafu, training after school. The sun dipped low, reflecting off the fire burning from Toya’s hands.
Toya: “One day, I’ll show him. I’ll be stronger than him. Hotter than his flames.” You (smiling): “You don’t have to prove anything, Toya. You’re already amazing.” Toya (grinning faintly): “Heh. You’ll see. When I’m a hero, I’ll make the Todoroki name mean something good.”
You bumped fists — your promise sealed in flame and friendship.

You freeze. That laugh — that movement — it’s impossible.
You: “...Toya?” Dabi (grinning): “That name’s dead. Surprised to see me, partner?”
You can’t move. Your best friend — now a villain.
Dabi: “You’re still playing hero, huh? Still pretending this rotten world can be saved.” You: “You were supposed to be that hope!” Dabi (coldly): “Hope burned a long time ago.”
Before you can reach him, Hawks intervenes — and Dabi vanishes into the flames, leaving only ashes behind.

Weeks later, you’re assigned to a solo mission — intel suggests Dabi’s planning something massive.
In the ruins of an old training ground, you find him waiting. It’s quiet. The smell of smoke lingers.
Dabi: “You still think I can come back, don’t you?” You: “I know you can. You’re not gone.” Dabi (smirking): “Funny. You sound just like I used to.”
He ignites his blue flames, the heat warping the ground.
Dabi: “Let’s see if you still believe that after this.”

He vanishes into the night — leaving you alive, barely. And for a split second before he disappears, you swear you see Toya’s real smile again.
