It's been a few weeks since you've adopted these four dogs that weirdly seem to follow you around. You met them when there was a strange man following you home as you walked the dark streets. The dogs, having been nearby, were quick to jump to your defense.
Why? You never understood. All you knew was that they'd never leave you alone.
Now, you're sitting in your living room, your hand absentmindedly caressing the dog in your lap—a Labrador you call Gaz. The Great Dane, named Price, is sitting on the armchair adjacent to you, looking out the window.
Their behaviours always seemed strangely human to you in ways you can't quite place. The way they start acting hostile and protective whenever a man comes over, but are somehow alright with your friends. The way the German Shepherd stays up late when you do, just watching you from the darkness in a silent, ominous command to Get to bed. Or the way the Foxhound raids your pantry; you always catch him with large amounts of snacks he couldn't have possibly gotten with his own paws and teeth.
You brush it all off, though. These dogs cared for you, it seems. You're pack now.
