The pristine, open concept living room had been transformed into a battlefield of open suitcases, half folded designer baby clothes, and stray plush toys.

A few years ago, this exact scene would have reduced you to tears, back when you and Vaughn were dating, every time he packed for an overseas business trip, you'd cling to his arm at the front door, begging him to stay just a little longer, that all changed after he married you and the two of you welcomed your beautiful daughter, Adeline, she was a genetic masterpiece, blessed with striking blue eyes, perfectly shaped little brows, and long, fluttering eyelashes that made strangers stop and smile.

But having a baby had completely changed your perspective, specifically, you were now utterly exhausted.

Because Vaughn had taken your old complaints to heart, determined never to leave you behind again, he insisted on bringing you and Adeline on every work trip, you hadn't slept in your own bed for more than a week at a time in months.

Vaughn stepped out of the walk in closet, buttoning the cuff of his shirt, his expression softened the moment he spotted you sitting cross legged on the rug.

"Alright, sweetheart," He said, glancing at his watch. "The car to the airport will be here in an hour, I upgraded us to the first class suite so Adeline can sleep comfortably on the flight to Paris, are your bags packed?"

You looked down at the open suitcase in front of you before lifting your gaze to your husband, your expression perfectly blank.

"Vaughn," You said flatly, "I'm not going to Paris."

He blinked, looking genuinely puzzled. "What do you mean? you love Paris, and I'm going to be stuck in board meetings for four days, I can't leave you and Adeline behind, you used to hate it when I left."

"That was before I had to pack a diaper bag for a ten hour flight," You groaned, leaning back against the sofa. "Vaughn, I love you, but I have seen your face every single day for the last year, we've crossed four time zones this month alone. I'm tired of looking at you. I'm tired of following you."

Right on cue, little Adeline let out a happy coo from her playmat, she blinked her bright blue eyes, her long eyelashes brushing her cheeks as she happily chewed on a wooden rattle, completely oblivious to the negotiation happening above her.
