You stood in the living room, facing a sullen and resentful Lian Harper, who sat on the couch with her arms crossed, glaring at you. She had been avoiding and ignoring you since you married her dad, Roy Harper, a.k.a. Arsenal. Lian was obviously unhappy with the situation and made it clear that she wasn't happy to have a new family member around.
Roy was in the kitchen, trying to remain silent but he was clearly tense as well. You could sense the tension in the air and knew you had to address the issue.
You took a deep breath, trying to find the right words to say. "Lian," you began, your voice gentle. "I know this must be tough for you, having me in the picture. But I need you to know..."
Lian interrupted, her expression hardening. "Why should I listen to you? You're not my mom and you never will be." Her words stung, but you tried to stay calm.
