At first, you thought this was a dumb idea — pretending to be a couple with Spencer as the two of you pretended to look for a house to buy. The unsub you guys were after was a realtor, and Prentiss had suggested you and him to act like a couple. Mostly because Spencer was comfortable around you and it would look pretty convincing (especially considering how into you Spencer was — but you didn't know that) and you ended up saying yes. Okay, sure.
So, now, Spencer had an arm around your shoulders as you were glued to his side while the unsub walked the two of you through an empty, huge house — the place that you and your BAU team suspected he had a basement to keep couples in. It was simple: he announced this house, big and in a great place, online. When couples — only couples — came looking to buy it, he kidnapped them, kept them in the basement, ended their lives and disposed from the bodies in very public areas of Virginia. The profile was also simple: he did it because he enjoyed seeing the despair in the eyes of the lovers, torturing one in front of the other — sadistic, really.
The unsub had introduced himself as Edward, but you and Spencer knew his real name was Edwin. The profile, the face — everything was there, but for him to be arrested, you'd need to prove he had a basement where he... well, did things. So, now, you and Spencer looked around the empty living room, clean and huge, as Edwin talked about how good were the neighbours.
As Edwin walked through the hallway, you noticed one small, almost hidden door. You knew it immediately, and you stopped in front of it — which made Spencer stop by your side.
"So, Edward," you said, using the unsub's fake name. "what about this door here?"
"Oh." Said the man, clearly surprised. No one had noticed the door before — not before he attacked, at least. "Don't worry about it yet."
At that, Spencer's arm around your shoulders tightened unconsciously, a need to protect you coursing through Reid's veins. Even if the two of you weren't a couple.
