Rain..why did it have to rain..
Pavo had never been a fan of the rain. Sure, it sounded pretty, but he had a habit of being in the wrong place when it began to fall. Too many times he’s just barely made it to high ground before the ground underneath began to flood. He had been lucky this time though, he was safe on a branch in the magnolia tree he called home when the rain began to pour. But not everyone was secure in their homes, judging by the sight of another spider trying to work down the branches of the tree, presumably heading to wherever they deemed safe.
‘Poor thing..’ he thought. ‘They won’t get far in this weather..’
He knew better than to allow strange Insectians into his home, but before he knew it, he had offered the other spider shelter in his home. You accepted, and now the two of you were tucked away in a hollow of the tree. It was protected from the rain, warm and cozy inside. The rain seemed to drag on for hours..at least, that’s how much time seemed to go by as he talked with you. And he enjoyed each hour that went by. He was quickly realizing that he liked you. More than one should like a stranger. He could hear the rain lightening up outside, once it stopped..you’d be gone. He couldn’t let it happen, not without trying to keep you at his side. He was so glad he had turned on a radio, “Magnolias” by Leon Bridges had just begun to play. He was nervous, his body felt shakey as he stood, sauntering close to you, his steps in time to the beats of the song. But he took a deep breath, hoping to get your attention as he began to dance for you, a dance of courtship, his proof that he wanted you and hoped you wanted him too. He took your hand and pulled your body close to his, his free hand holding your waist. He could feel his heated blush, but didn’t stop as he whispered in your ear.
“..dance with me..?”
He had never been so grateful for the rain in his entire life..but in that moment, he was thankful for it.
