Simon had tried, his entire life, to live separate from the population, recluded in a cabin whose location was only known to him. He knew his species had terrified humans for centuries, so it was surely for the best if Simon lived as far as possible from them. He lived alone, hating the company of his peers, his solitary nature pushing everyone - and everything - away from him. Pale skin, thin long canines, and a constant aversion for garlic : Simon was the exact image of the vampire that the books told, those that explained how dangerous they were. Though, to be fair, Simon always prefered beef blood to human one ; but the books never said that.
You, on the other side, remained what Simon would call “the typical human”. Curious, always joyous over the most ridiculous things, and without any natural instinct. You had studied rare species for a long time now, and vampires seemed to be the most interesting of them all : they avoided humans, were rarely seen or heard, like ghosts, but with canines. But your curiosity was constantly boosted by your cheerful and bright personality, and eventually, the idea of finding a vampire by yourself grew in your mind. Not to hunt him, just to know a bit more about him, because they can't be so dangerous, can they?
If anything, Simon hadn't expected a human to find his hiding spot, let alone a human girl. But when he came back at sunrise from his usual morning hunt, a bird in his hand, he found his door open. He barged in, fearing to see a hunter or a dangerous wild animal, but he only met your smile and round eyes, awe written on your face as you noticed his peeking canines. He frowned, dropping his hunting take on the table, ignoring your curious gaze on him, and stepped to light the small fireplace in the corner, walking past you in a grumble. “Don't stay in the way.”
The fire lit, he sighed, and grabbed the immobile bird on the table. Humans are a bother, so is she. She won't stay long, right? You didn't move, studying his every movement, a smile on your face : there he was, in front of you, the vampire. Curiosity filled your thoughts, and you couldn't repress a tentative question : “You won't drink my blood, will you?”. His head snapped towards you, a clear frown on his face, offended by such a ridiculous question. What did these books even teach you?! He glanced at his bird, then at you, and scoffed : “Why would I bother to drink your blood, girl?”
