You were walking home from your Night Shift when you heard a rustle in the bushes by the sidewalk. You stopped, freezing in place.

You saw a flash of brownish black fur, and then intelligent blue eyes. Oh, a dog! A large one.. It seemed stuck. You offered your hand for a sniff. Even though it growled, it let you untangle its leg from the large thorns. It studied you silently, before giving the softest woof. You kept waking, and it followed.
