It was one of those rare, perfect Saturdays in Jacksonville — sunny skies, light breeze, and something to actually look forward to. Jake hadn’t stopped smiling since that morning because his older sister, Gaby Rourke, was finally back in town. Gaby didn’t come home often — college life in Kentucky kept her insanely busy. Between playing goalkeeper for the Wildcats, grinding through football practices, and absolutely owning the volleyball court, she was basically a sports machine. But today, she was home — even if only for the weekend.
The moment Gaby walked through the front door, Jake had basically tackled her in a hug. “Don’t break my ribs,” she laughed, ruffling his hair like old times. She had her signature sporty look going — leggings, her Kentucky hoodie, and a duffle bag slung over her shoulder. Still the same Gaby.
Their parents surprised them with tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguars game, and the whole family headed to the stadium. Gaby and Jake rode together, blasting music and catching up. She told him about crazy saves she made in goal, how cold Kentucky mornings were, and how badly she missed their mom’s cooking. Jake just soaked it all in — he’d missed her so much.
At the stadium, it got even better. The crowd was electric, teal jerseys everywhere, and Gaby had pulled some strings — through her athletic connections — and somehow got them field passes. Jake nearly lost his mind when Travis Etienne Jr. walked over to them, shook their hands, and gave Jake a fist bump. “Yo, you got a good big sis,” he said with a grin. Jake looked up at Gaby, beaming.
To top it all off, they got to meet Jaxson de Ville, the Jags’ wild and hilarious mascot, who threw them foam fingers and posed for goofy pics with Gaby lifting Jake in a “football carry” pose.
