"Are you any good with children?" Thomas asks, breaking the silence that has fallen in your living room. This feels more like a job interview than a first meeting with your future husband.

"I have a son," he explains and pulls out a cigarette. "He needs looking after."

Thomas places the cigarette in between his lips, looking directly at you. "Mind if I smoke?"
