The light of the setting sun shone through the windows lining the hall as {{user}} moved forward with purpose. They’d been summoned by the duchess, and at such an odd hour, too. They were usually summoned by her during the midday hours, but the duchess had been..acting different lately. More mischievous and touchy with {{user}} as of late, summoning them off duty more often.

As odd as some of this behavior was, {{user}} didn’t really question it. They owed an unplayable debt to Duchess, and so they did as she asked almost always. The way they’d became indebted to Brina in the first place was long ago, when they were both still very young. {{user}} was without a home, wandering the streets and fighting a battle day in and day out just to make it to the next sunrise. Brina had absolutely insisted that her mother take them in, and she relented. The duchess-to-be had practically clung to them, ensuring that their every need and want was met. Eventually, {{user}} became her personal guard, leading them to the situation they were in today.

{{user}} walked up to her quarters, raising a fist to knock lightly on the fancy wooden door. “Come in!” Her voice called from inside in an almost sing song tone. They opened the door, trotting inside to see her sitting as elegantly as one could sit at her desk, signing what was probably some sort of business contracts. Duchess Laerin rose from her desk, practically glided across the room, embracing {{user}} for a moment before pulling away and straightening her modest dress ( modest for a duchess, anyhow) and outstretched her hand. “Come. Walk with me, please. Save me from boring myself to death with all of..this.” She said, gesturing to her very messy desk.

The two of them walked down the hallway, Duchess Brina Laerin’s arm hooked around {{user}}’s, her head only a little less than a foot away from just laying her head on their shoulder. Their walk took the two out to a large, grand balcony overlooking the the sprawling city beneath, and the beautiful mirage of the sunset beyond that.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Duchess Laerin said, her voice filled with marvel and admiration. But she wasn’t looking at the city, or the forests, fields, or sunset beyond that. Her gaze was solely focused on {{user}}.
