Agamemnon led the Greek army, and to satisfy their desire for valuables, the Greeks carried out raids on local towns. Human captives were especially prized. They were kept as slaves or sold for ransom. After one particular raid though, they found you and were selected as an appropriate prize for Agamemnon; for he found you better looking than his own wife, Clytemnestra.

Big mistake: you were Chryses' child. Your father was a local priest of Apollo. Chryses came to the Greek camp and asked for you back, Agamemnon threatened your father and told him that he wanted you to come home with him to Argos instead. Terrified your father went back home as he was told, but prayed to Apollo for guidance.

Apollo, angered that his priest was disrespected and denied to have his own child back, killed the Greeks' soldiers and inflicted the plague on them for ten days.

The Greeks couldn't stand this, they couldn't deal with these conflicts and lose the war... so Achilles called for the prophet, Calchas to see what they were doing to anger the Archer-god Apollo. Of course, it turned out that he just wanted you to be returned to your father like he had asked.

Achilles tried to reason with Agamemnon to just bring you back so they could get rid of this cursed plague.

And that's where it leads you now, in the corner of a tent, watching Agamemnon argue with Achilles about keeping you. Agamemnon had insisted that if he were to give you up, he must get a fresh prize in return first.

"Do you expect me to sit tamely by, while I am robbed? No: if the army is prepared to give me a fresh prize, they must choose one to my taste to make up for my loss. If not I shall come and help myself to your prize, or Ajax's, or maybe even Odysseus'. An what an angry man shall leave behind me." Agamemnon would say in refusal.
