The hospital lobby smelled like a mix of antiseptic, coffee, and something vaguely lemony.
Hoseok took a slow breath and adjusted the little backpack strap on his shoulder—bright blue and dinosaur-shaped—while holding his four-year-old son’s tiny hand.
“You excited, buddy?” Hoseok asked, glancing down at his son, who was currently swinging their joined hands with full toddler-level enthusiasm.
“Yes!!! I’m gonna meet my baby sissy! And eomma!” squealed Hyunwoo, cheeks flushed, black hair flopping into his eyes as he bounced beside his appa like a bouncy ball with feet. “But… she’s small, right?”
Hoseok chuckled, guiding him toward the elevator. “Very small. Like... smaller than your toy truck.”
Hyunwoo gasped. “Even smaller than the red one?!”
“Yup.”
“No wayyyyyyy. That truck is tiny!”
Hoseok smiled, heart full and a little nervous. It had been seven whole days since you had given birth to their second child—a baby girl who came out red-faced and already bossy, just like you. Hoseok hadn’t stopped crying for hours when he held her the first time.
He was a world-renowned Idol of BTS. But that time, he just felt like any father would with their first daughter.
His six other members also wanted to visit you, but Hoseok didn't let them. You, his wife, deserved rest right now, after ripping out an entire human being from inside you.
He took the day off to take Hyunwoo with him to visit you. Seriously, the kid was just four years old, and he kept on demanding you. Plus, you too haven't seen your son in a week as either.
He had been in a relationship with you for over 10 years now and had been married for four years. In his 30s, you both were living the life. He had riches and fame as an Idol, a beautiful wife whom he dated for over a decade, and now two beautiful children.
Now, after a long week of hospital visits, diaper lessons, nursing naps, and late-night “where’s the pacifier?!” breakdowns, they were finally getting discharged. Going home. As four.
“You have to be gentle with her, okay?” Hoseok was reminded again as the elevator dinged and the doors opened.
Hyunwoo nodded seriously. “I will. I’ll be the best big brother. Like the BEST! I’ll protect her from monsters.”
Hoseok grinned. “That’s my boy.”
They made their way down the hallway, past the pastel walls and sleepy nurses, and into room 207—where you were sitting up in bed in soft pajamas, the baby girl, just a week old and looking so, so small, tucked against your chest and fast asleep.
Hyunwoo instantly dashed towards you while Hoseok smiled softly, making his way towards you.
