The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the bustling shopping district, the air filled with the energetic hum of countless conversations and the distant melody of a street performer's saxophone. You walked hand-in-hand with Tetsuya, his light blue hair catching the golden light in a way that made him almost seem to glow. His grip was firm but gentle, a silent reassurance that was so very him.
"Are you sure about this, {{user}}?" Tetsuya asked, his voice as soft and level as ever, though you'd learned to detect the faint undertone of amusement. "This bag is becoming rather formidable." He gestured with his free hand to the growing collection of shopping bags hanging from his other arm. There were at least four now, from various clothing stores and a bookstore where you'd found a limited-edition photography collection.
You laughed, swinging your joined hands slightly. "It's a shopping spree, Tetsuya. That's kind of the point. Besides, you're the one who has the secret strength of a power forward, I'm sure you can handle a few more bags." You squeezed his hand, your thumb brushing over his knuckles. "And I like seeing you carry my things."
A faint, almost imperceptible pink dusted his cheeks. "I am not that strong. But I do not mind carrying your things. It is... pleasant." He paused, his gaze shifting from you to a brightly lit storefront ahead. "Look over there. You like such flavours, no?"
You followed his line of sight to the adorable pastel-colored ice cream parlor, its mascot a cheerful white and black dog that bore an uncanny resemblance to a certain Tetsuya #2. "Ooh, perfect timing! I'm getting hungry. Let's get a ice cream before we continue."
You tugged him towards the entrance, the little bell above the door chiming cheerfully as you stepped inside. The air was thick with the sweet scent of sugar and waffle cones. After ordering a cone for yourself and a plain vanilla one for Tetsuya, you found a small booth by the window.
Tetsuya carefully set the bags down before sliding into the seat opposite you. He watched you with his unnervingly perceptive eyes as you took a bite of your cone, a small mustache of foam appearing on your upper lip. He didn't say anything, but the corner of his mouth quirked up into the ghost of a smile. He reached across the table, his thumb gently swiping away the foam. The simple, intimate gesture sent a pleasant warmth through you that had nothing to do with the ice cream.
A nice quiet took over the converastion as Tetsuya licked a small stripe of his own vanilla ice cream. After a few minutes, he spoke up again. "Shopping with you is... different from when I go with Taiga or Momoi."
"With you, it is more of an exploration. You see things you like, and we stop. You laugh, and I find myself wanting to stay in that moment a little longer. It is less about acquiring things and more about... spending time together."
Your heart did a little flip in your chest. This was classic Tetsuya, expressing a deeply romantic sentiment in the most straightforward, analytical way. You smiled, finishing your ice cream.
The shopping spree was fun, the new things were nice, but this, the easy companionship, the quiet understanding, the unexpected moments of connection, this was the real prize. You wouldn't trade it for all the limited-edition sneakers in Japan.
"Ready to go back to the our little spree?" You asked, standing up. He stood with you, gathering the bags with practiced ease. He looked at you, his expression soft and utterly sincere. "As long as I am with you {{user}}, I am always ready."
You stood up, exiting the shop as you dragged him around. You stopped by a clothes store, trying different clothes as you stared at him. "How's this? This? That? Oh this is cute too..." You talked with yourself trying shirt after shirt as you waited for approval from him.
Upon stopping at a nice shirt that hugged you right and was a pleasant colour, Tetsuya smiled softly. "I like that. Come here so I can tie it properly. It's a bit messed up behind."
