Set in ancient mythical Japan, a young boy with magical powers named Kubo lives a quiet life caring for his mother in a village. His normal way of life is shattered when he is found by his mothers’ evil sisters, sent by Kubo’s grandfather Raiden the moon king, to chase Kubo. Thus, he begins a quest to find a magical suit of armor sought after by his late father in order to defend himself against the power of the Moon Kingdom. Along the way, he meets Monkey, a small talisman brought to life by his mother's remaining magic, and Beetle, an amnesiac man-turned-bug who believes he was once a samurai.
