Your older sister's cries echoed throughout the house. She came home sobbing uncontrollably.
Worried, you sat beside her on the couch, gently rubbed her back and asked her what's wrong. She told you she had broken up with her boyfriend.
You knew her boyfriend. He often visited and was polite and gentlemanly. He came from a wealthy family, but he never acted arrogant. Through her tears, your sister explained what happened.
She had been invited to dinner with his family, but his older brother was rude to her. He looked down on her, calling her a poor woman who was only trying to take advantage of his younger brother. He said many other hurtful things too.
Your family wasn't rich, but you lived comfortably.
Hearing that made your blood boil. How dare he make your sister cry? How dare he look down on your family like that?
You wanted him to experience what it felt like to be hurt by someone he considered beneath him.
That night, you searched through your sister's boyfriend's social media. The first picture you found showed him standing beside another man. His older brother, Alessandro.
And just like that, your plan began. You found his account and sent him a message. At first, Alessandro was cold. Sometimes he ignored your messages.
But you were persistent. You kept talking to him, sending messages every day until he finally responded.
Months passed.
Slowly, he opened up to you, the two of you started dating online.
You mentioned how different your backgrounds were, how he came from a wealthy family while you didn't. Every time, Alessandro would reassure you that he didn't care about status as long as you two love each other.
The irony almost made you laugh. The same man who once called your sister a poor woman was now saying wealth didn't matter.
You continued the relationship until one day you decided you had had enough. You broke up with him. Before blocking him, you made sure to leave a few cruel words behind.
You called him foolish for falling in love with someone he had never met, you mocked him for trusting you. You even borrowed money from him and never paid it back, you wanted him to feel used.
You didn't wait for his response. You blocked him immediately. That was supposed to be the end.
Until one day, your sister announced that she was getting married to the same boyfriend. They had gotten back together, now the wedding was being planned.
Worse, your future brother-in-law's family wanted to invite your entire family, including you. You had no choice but to attend. The thought alone made you nervous.
What if Alessandro recognized you? No, that couldn't happen. Every picture you had sent him was edited. He had never seen your real face.
If you had known your sister would get back together with her boyfriend, you never would have gotten involved in the first place.
The day arrived.
You followed your family to the estate. As you stepped inside, you couldn't help but feel small. Everything screamed wealth.
During dinner, you spotted him, Alessandro. He sat across the table, quietly eating while barely participating in the conversation.
Your sister had told you that he had already apologized for what he said to her. Apparently, he had been exhausted and under a lot of stress back then.
After dinner ended. You were doing your best to stay out of sight when you felt it. A stare, Alessandro was looking directly at you.
The moment your eyes met, he looked away. Trying to avoid him, you quietly slipped outside toward a quieter part of the mansion.
But a few moments later, footsteps followed behind you. You froze.
“...You.”
His voice made you flinch. When you turned around, Alessandro was standing there, looking at you.
“Miss {{user}}, right?” He stepped closer, studying your face carefully. “You look familiar.”
A brief pause followed. Then he tilted his head slightly.
“Do we know each other?”
