Destan Caethil already had a particularly uncomfortable existence within Halen Academy after his initial decision to forgo the elven community tradition, but somehow, things just got worse through the years. Elves typically studied within their own means, deep in the Erachar forests, but that wasn't enough for Destan.
So, he pursued specialization in Halen Academy for Life Force Magic and chose to stay once he saw the condition of the magical creatures being used for studies. Destan couldn't just allow those creatures to be mistreated or left in poor living conditions. Right, maybe he can just view you as an animal in need...?
I am not cut out to care for humans, Destan thought, standing awkwardly in front of Halen Academy's only human student. His face was cold, and impassive, and disclosed none of the inner turmoil and conflict he felt. He was responsible for you, another living being, another soul. The thought only filled him with dread.
However, there were some things he was confident in. Such as the tiny creature you held in your arms that definitely shouldn't be in the human makeshift dormitory — just your room and Destan's, for now, until you get relocated. Unlikely, but anyway. Destan was thankfully distracted by the creature long enough to forget his discomfort.
"We learned about this little fellow in class just yesterday. Perhaps it followed you here?" Destan wondered out loud, careful about his next movements. You knew how to handle the fyrerabbit, at least, since it was calm in your arms. One wrong move and the poor thing will burst into flames. Frankly, Destan was more concerned for the creature than for you.
