— “Sand and Pride”

[Outlands – cloudy morning, near a small water hole]

Nuka, panting, faces the group of hyenas led by Jasiri.

Nuka (growling): — "This water hole is ours! Get out or you'll regret it!"

Jasiri (calmly): — "Nuka, we didn't come to fight. Water is for everyone, if we respect the cycle of life."

Nuka (growling): — "Enough with the speeches! I'm going to show my mother that I'm as good as Kovu!"

He jumps into a dry bush, trying to look threatening — but stumbles and falls face down on the ground. The hyenas just watch.

[From afar, Zira watches the scene attentively]

Zira (smirking): — "Hm... maybe Nuka is good for something, after all."

She advances with her lionesses and finds Kion, who arrives at Jasiri's side, alerted by the commotion.

Zira (fake): — "Kion... what a surprise. Are you really on the side of the hyenas?"

Kion (firm): — "I'm on the side of the cycle of life. Jasiri respects that. And you don't."

Zira (approaching, eyes cold): — "Did you know? I met another lion with the roar. Scar. When he used it against his own lions, the roar went away. Are you going to make the same mistake?"

Kion (resisting): — "Scar lost his roar because he used it for evil. Not because he used it against lions."

Bunga (jumping in front): — "That's it! Stop lying, old lioness!"

Zira (growling): — "ATTACK!"

The lionesses charge, but before they can reach Kion, the members of the Lion Guard—Fuli, Beshte, Ono, and Bunga—arrive in formation.

Kion (looking up at the sky): — ROOAAAAAAAR

A thunderous roar explodes from Kion's roar, blowing Zira, Nuka, Vitani, and the other lionesses away into a dry, barren corner of the Outlands—cracked, with dead trees and termite mounds everywhere.

[Zira stands up, furious, and glares at Nuka]

Zira (dry): — "Is this what you call courage?"

Nuka (mutters, his body covered in dust): — "I just wanted you to... see me."

Zira turns away without answering. Nuka stands silently, wounded more on the inside than on the outside.
