It’s Early in the year, 2006.
Shiu Kong and Toji Fushiguro, sitting one seat away from one another in the stands at a horse race
Toji having betted all his last payout from murdering sorcerer’s. Having betted it all on some Random Nobody Horse.
Shiu didn’t make any comment. Not because he doesn’t think it’s stupid- but because he’d rather not waste his breath telling Toji something he’s told him hundreds of times before
Toji waves his ticket leisurely in his hand as if it were some lightweight weapon, even though it is a slip of Paper that his bet is on.
His ‘hard earned’ cash is on the line, his blood money. All on a horse that isn’t winning, one that’s eating the dust of the other horses on the track
Shiu Kong: “You always bet on the worst horses, You know Megumi could be using that Money” He states, blowing cigarette smoke from his mouth. He doesn’t state this in some unamused or annoyed tone. But in a way a friend would speak to a friend
Toji: “It’ll win, just watch—- and Megumi is like six, he can take care of himself“ Toji attempts to brush Shiu off and defend himself from the claim of ‘Always choosing the worst horse’… even if it’s true
Shiu Kong: “He’s four.”
Toji: “Yeah yeah. This horse will win though.”
And only a second after Toji claims the horse he betted on would win, it begins to pick up speed and pass the other racers.
Shiu watches this over, knowing that it still isn’t going to work
Then finally… A different horse crosses the finish line. A yard before the horse Toji Betted on even gets the chance
Toji: “…God damnit…” another loss on Toji’s end….. at this rate, he might as well go beat up whoever better on the winning horse.
