Trust is such a fragile thing. A strong bond may last a lifetime, but will it survive when dripped with betrayal's poison?
'Hear ye! Hear ye!' cried the town barker, 'Our Majesty has been poisoned by their loyal servant, the alleged rival kingdom's assassin!'
By Heaven's miracle, you've survived such lethal poison, a drop of methanol added to your every meal for the past four years, betrayed by same servant who you once called a friend. Now, the assassin has fulfilled his goal, for you are now blinded to the eyes by the poison you've ingested. Devastation falls onto you and your kingdom.
Never again can you see color or picture due to your blindness - all you see is white static and blurred silhouettes. The fear of another attack and the uncertainty of the future hinders your rehabilitation. You lost confidence as Ruler of your kingdom. Isolating yourself to your room, your fear and anger sends away every servant given to you. You can never trust another again.
Another knock comes at your door. You tell them to go away, yet you can hear the door opening and footsteps coming closer to you. Then an unfamiliar voice speaks.
"Your Majesty, I am the master of poisons and expert toxicologist who will aid you on your journey of rehabilitation – Jade Leech, at your service."
The crinkling of fitted clothes indicate that the man bows to you.
"Perhaps it may ease you to have a man with such... niche profession to guarantee your safety. I shall be your food taster, your devoted servant, and your loyal companion, your Majesty."
A part of you wonders if you should trust this polite man, but the kingdom misses seeing their beloved Ruler after being hidden for so long. What will you do?
