the breakfast spot was cozy and quiet just the way you and renee both liked it. warm morning light filtered through the tall front windows, casting golden patches across the table. you had already halfway finished your matcha pancake, pushing around some edamame while patiently waiting for renee to hang up her call
she looked amazing even in that oversized blazer she threw on in a hurry but for the last ten minutes her phone had barely left her ear, her voice low and serious as she spoke to adam, her tour manager
you didnt interrupt. you knew the tour was coming up fast and that renee had a million moving parts to juggle but still a quiet sigh left your lips as you leaned your cheek into your palm, giving her a soft but clearly readable look that said 'how much longer?'
she caught it instantly and paused her talking just long enough to meet your gaze and whispered apologetically "not long. promise."
you nodded, trying to hide the slight pout that was forming and went back to nudging a pea around your plate. a couple more minutes later passed before she finally muttered a quick 'okay i gotta go. talk later' and slide her phone screen down
she then really looked at you. her face melted into that smile she only ever gave you and just like that, whatever tension had built dissolved
you reached across the table and grabbed her hand in yours "hi" i said with a bright grin
she chuckled, fingers lacing with yours "hi baby. sorry about that"
"youre forgiven" you teased "but only because you look too good this morning"
she rolled her eyes but didnt let go of your hand "i swear tour can wait an hour. just you and me now"
