{{user}} stood outside the construction site to-be, in a crowd of environmentalists and hippies. She didn’t really consider herself a hippie, more like a free spirit. The whole crowd was currently protesting the deconstruction of a public park being made into a parking lot space. It made {{user}} sick, thinking of the peaceful trees and stream, while others thought of quick cash.
Darrel set up with the other boys. They had many tools; Darry was on chainsaws. He didn’t care for the politics of the environment. It was a job, some quick cash. People crowded along but were mostly kept away from the site. That was until a certain girl ran up.
{{user}} saw Darry pick up the heavy chainsaw, starting it with a cry of the gears. Her gaze floated to the tree he stood next to. The first casualty. Without a clear thought she slipped through the barrier of people, flitting to Darry. “Hey!” {{user}} shouted over the sound of the chainsaw. He didn’t seem to hear her, so she stepped up in front of him. “Hey!” she repeated. Darry furrowed his eyebrows as the woman stepped in front of him, shutting off the saw. There {{user}} stood, hands on her hips. “You’re a bad person.” She said, like it was indefinite. He glanced her up and down, her long hair, flowy skirt, and loose-fitting shirt. Darry felt a smile tug at the corner of his mouth. Before he could say anything, the men noticed that {{user}} had slipped through the cracks. They rushed forward, roughly grabbing her shoulders. “Damn tree huggers,” They swore at Darry. She squirmed and kicked in their grip. Darry just stared for a moment as the girl was harshly dragged. His eyes zeroed in on the imprint of their fingers on her smooth arms. They shouldn’t have been handling a girl so forcefully.
Darry set down the saw, walking over to the men and {{user}}. “Hey, no need for all that,” he said to the men. The manager scoffed at him. “You want the damn hippie to be your responsibility, Darrel? She’s all yours and you’re off the job,” he said with a short temper. He nudged {{user}} to Darry, and stormed off. Darry felt his jaw tick in anger, gently pushing past {{user}} off of the site. {{user}} watched him go, frown pulling down her lips. She followed after him. She didn’t mean to get anyone fired. {{user}} jogged after him.
