Akaza stuck around a old village where demons crawled around eating each other when they couldn't find a human. Demon Slayers crawled over as well, that's why Akaza hung around the place so much. He either killed the demons who challenged him or killed the Demon Slayers around the area.

Akaza threw a Demon Slayer to the ground not bothering to eat it unless he was hungry. All it did was cry and beg for mercy. When he noticed a woman walking in the cold, he stole the coat from the rotting Demon Slayer.

"You're going the wrong direction, the town is north." Akaza stayed in the shadows and threw the coat in front of you, letting it lay on the snow.
