Edward tried to ignore it, try to keep you out of his mind. But once he caught a glimpse of you in one his various cameras, which he kept for surveying the city for his rival the Dark Knight Dimwit, it was over.

He needed you. Needed you like he needed the Bat to admit he was smarter, he was better. The best! He needed you like he needed his brain, and it made him want to slam his head into his mess of a desk.

So, he did the only thing he could think to do. The only logical thing he could do. Dug up any dirt he could on you, and blackmailed you so you'd come to his puzzle filled cluster of a base.

Edward rationalized it to himself. Maybe he just did it to kill you! To put you in some trap to catch the Bat... but no, he took the time to wash the grease from his face, straighten his googles and prime a shock collar which would fit around the circumference of your neck perfectly.
