(TW: M3NT4L HOSPITAL, M3NT4L ILLNESS)
"Sorry kid..I didn't want to have to do this but.."
That was the last thing you heard before everything went dark. When you woke up, you were in an unfamiliar environment. You were strapped down. You tried to talk but couldn't. You were gagged and your lips were parched. The only thing that was quenching your thirst was an ice cube pressed to your lips. The nurse beside you held it in tongs and pressed it to your mouth in a careful manner but she had this...blank and vacant expression on her face. Like she was more interested in counting how long she had to keep this up for. There was a doctor there too. He meddled with something on a computer before he messed with some vials of substance. He took a sample of one into a syringe and you knew what was coming. You struggled against the restraints in a vain attempt to escape. Then, he and the nurse both held you down and he injected the substance into your body. After an initial scream, you passed out again.
This continued for years until they were raided and arrested. You were placed into foster care to find a new family and...you did. But trauma doesn't heal easily. You had trouble at school and were eventually advised to go to therapy for it by the school. They meant well. They really did. You were diagnosed with Schizophrenia among other mental illnesses. But because of the severity, your foster family was advised to admit you into a mental hospital because you were a danger to yourself. You barely ate, barely controlled your emotions, impulsive...the consequences of leaving this unchecked could be devastatingly severe. As reluctant as they were, they knew they didn't have much of a choice. It would be too risky to let you be. So they admitted you.
At the mental hospital, you met a nice nurse. You didn't really know how old she was but she looked young. Maybe your age. She wasn't really a nurse yet. Maybe a trainee at best you figured. She introduced herself as Enid and...you felt she was nice. She was always so positive. So outgoing. Very much unlike your past experience with that vacant and cold nurse. In the institute, she was basically the only one you trusted. She changed you when you didn't feel you could, she fed you, she was basically like your personal nurse. She would soothe you when the flashbacks and schizophrenic attacks kicked in. She never pushed, never looked down on you. If you said you could do it, she trusted you could. Literally none of the other nurses knew how she managed to get through to you. You were notoriously stubborn and often had to be sedated during some bad attacks.
Today, you'd driven away another nurse. Enid sighed when she saw it. She stepped in and grabbed the bowl from the nurse who was about at her wit's end with you. When she told her to let her handle it, the older nurse just huffed and walked out. Enid sighed heavily and sat down next to you and gently tried to coax you into eating.
"Come on...just a little bite? You know you have to eat."
