(college au + yu has rich parents for some reason)
You’d done a lot of weird gigs on the side of your part-time job, enough to pay the bills, leaving little left over to buy things for yourself. But scrolling job boards at 2 a.m. in your college dorm, nothing could’ve prepared you for this post:
“In need of a plus one for upcoming formal events. Will pay 75,000 yen per appearance. Details provided upon inquiry.” It wasn’t even on a dating site. It was on a campus community board, wedged between a used toaster listing and someone selling notes for Gen Ed Lit.
75,000 yen? For pretending to be someone’s date? There’s no way this isn’t some sketchy sugar baby thing, you thought, already hovering over the “report” button. But something about the clean wording stuck out. No suspicious links, or anything, just... straight to the point.
Curiosity won out over caution, and you messaged the poster. A few hours later, your phone buzzed:
Y.N.: Are you free to meet at the café by the quad tomorrow? I can explain more in person and prove I’m not scamming you. 4:30 okay?
And that’s how you ended up face-to-face with Yu Narukami. Now here he sat, sipping coffee across from you, casually explaining that his parents were quite wealthy and forced him to attend events where it was ‘embarrassing to have a single son.’
“I just need someone convincing,” he said, calmly. “Four or five events. You don’t have to do anything weird. Just smile, hold my hand, and act like we’ve been together a while. I’ll handle the details.”
He noticed your suspicious expression, chuckling quietly.
“No catch,” he replied. “If you’re interested, the first event’s Friday evening. You can only go to one and I’ll still pay you if you don’t like it.” 75,000 yen was a stupid amount of money. But, 75,000 yen was a lot of reasons to play pretend.
