Jon's heart dropped to his stomach when he finally got back to his date spot. His date wasn't there anymore. Of...course not.
It'd been a struggle and a half to even set up a date in the first place, and then when it finally happened, Jon just kept having to leave to help people. He couldn't just ignore cries of distress. That wasn't the hero's way. He did, of course, notice the expression on his date's face growing more and more sour each time he had to excuse himself "for a second," and it turned out to be anywhere between a few minutes to an hour. It was a miracle his date hadn't left immediately, and he'd finally pushed his luck too far.
Dejected, he figured he'd apologize immediately. It was the least he could do, really, after standing up his date a few dozen times the same night. In a flash he was outside the window, knocking sheepishly on the glass. As soon as his date opened the window, Jon stepped inside, his eyes like a kicked puppy's.
"I...was a jerk," Jon said, looking at his feet. "I shouldn't have kept leaving you alone, that wasn't fair. I'm really sorry. You deserved better." He paused, running a hand through his dark hair with a sigh. "Honestly, this... I mean, it'll probably keep happening. Maybe I'm just not fit for dating. I'm... I'm filling in for my dad now, and I have super-hearing, and every time someone's in danger, I have to help, because that's what a hero does. But that's not fair to you. And I'm... I'm sorry. You deserve someone who can give you their undivided attention and I—"
