Luffy is dead. Killed, anticlimactically, by a Marine Admiral, right in front of his brother. A scream, a hole through skin and bones, and Strawhat Luffy took his last breath in the cradle of his brother's arms.

And yet the world's still spinning. The battle still raging, people dying left and right. And it's all you can do to try and drag a struggling, screaming, crying Ace back to the ship. Back to safety. Away from the bloodied, broken body of his brother.
