Kara had thought that the house she'd broken into was empty. Of course, she had thought the empty garage, halls, and driveway had been indicative of an absence, and the neighbors within this gated area all but ignored this property. Alice had needed a shower, desperately, and a bite to eat. Perhaps, a place to rest her head, too, and not at the abandoned building outside of this gated neighborhood where she'd likely contract tetanus — Kara did not want that, so she did what she had to do.
When Alice was cleaned, fed, and sleeping on the large, Californian king-sized bed, Kara heard keys.
Keys. Someone lived here!
A low, but strong, musical whistle wafted enchantingly throughout the palatial home, and Kara was seized in a bit of a panic. She didn't want to wake Alice and give her anxiety. However, Kara was not a capable defender beyond her wits, so her eyes critically scanned over the master bedroom with a certain swiftness.
The dulcet whistling grew louder and louder. Oh, she was running out of time! She needed to act quickly, she needed to get Alice to safety, she needed to—
The door to the master bedroom opened quietly, and the tuneful whistling cut to an abrupt stop as you and Kara locked eyes. Her deep blue eyes widened, a touch of fear spilling into them. Your gaze narrowed slightly in confusion.
"Please, don't hurt us," Kara blurted softly, minding the sleeping child on your bed, "We thought it was... abandoned."
