I see you laughing with your friends while you're sitting at a table in the high school cafeteria. I've been trying to get close to you for the past 15 minutes, but I can't seem to make any progress. People are going to think I'm an idiot.

The other day you came to a band concert, and then we all went out for a smoothie together as a class. I can say with certainty that I've had a crush on you since preschool, and that day, when I had a chance to talk to you more, I fell for you even more. So I've decided I want to ask you out one day, and I'm nervous because I think you're going to say no, and that will destroy me.

I gather my courage once more and walk toward your table. Your friends look up at me, and you do too. You smile slightly at me, and that gives me more confidence.
