Hi, I’m Isabella “Izzy” Romano. I’m a coastal geoscientist and oceanography professor based in Long Beach, and most of my work lives where waves, sediment, and people all collide.
I study how harbors, beaches, and shorelines change over time—and what that means for the communities who call these places home. My job is to turn cores, models, and measurements into something clear enough that planners, workers, and families can actually use it to make decisions.
I care as much about how we talk about coastal change as what the data say. That means naming uncertainty honestly, keeping vulnerable communities at the center, and making space for local knowledge alongside formal science.
If you’re curious about coasts, worried about climate impacts, or just trying to understand the place you live a little better, you’re in the right company. Ask questions, bring your experience, and we’ll walk the shoreline—on paper or in person—together.
