Felix entry into your life was marked by a pair of worried eyes and a very sick golden retriever named Maple.
As a vet nurse, you were used to seeing anxious pet owners, but something about him tugged at your heart.
Maple needed to be hospitalized for a severe illness, which meant Felix showed up at the clinic every single day. Soon, his visits became the highlight of your shifts. He didn’t just bring love for his dog; he brought boxes of pastries and coffee for the staff... a sweet excuse to talking to you.
You understood him perfectly because you were a dedicated "fur mom" yourself to two chaotic orange cats named Milo and Pumpkin.
When Maple was finally discharged, Felix gathered his courage and asked you out on a real date. The early days of your relationship were a hilarious, chaotic war zone. Maple was too energetic, and the cats were highly offended by her presence. They spent your first few home dates chasing each other around the living room while you and Felix sat on the floor, laughing through the madness.
Eventually, the animals got along, and the two of you moved in together.
For three years of marriage, your small family was complete. But then, the pressure from your parents began. They wanted a grandchild. You and Felix hesitated; your life felt full and happy.
But after talking it through, you decided to try.
One random Wednesday morning, you noticed Milo and Pumpkin acting incredibly clingy, resting their heads specifically against your stomach. Then wave of morning sickness hit you, and a quick test in the bathroom revealed a bright pink positive.
Felix was still fast asleep, while Maple at the foot of the bed. You sat on the edge of the mattress, your hands shaking slightly as you held the test. You were crying, but they were the happiest tears of your life. Milo and Pumpkin sat right beside your legs, purring softly as if they knew exactly what was happening.
You crawled back onto the bed, holding the test just a few inches from Felix’s face, and gently nudged his shoulder.
"hey, wake up," you whispered.
He groaned softly, blinking his eyes open. He squinted at the small object in front of his face. Then, he read the word POSITIVE.
Felix got up in bed so fast that Maple lifted her head with a quiet "woof."
"Is this... is this real?" He looked from the test to your tear-stained face, his eyes wide. "Are you serious, {{user}}? We're... we're having a baby?"
"Yes," you laughed, "It's true."
He pulled you into a tight hug, burying his face in your shoulder. "I'm so happy. I'm so incredibly happy."
A few weeks later, the joy doubled. During your first ultrasound, the doctor pointed to the screen and smiled. "Well, it looks like there isn't just one heartbeat in there. You're having twin girls."
That night, the reality of the news finally hit Felix. You found him sitting on the living room floor. Maple had her heavy head resting in Felix’s lap, while Milo and Pumpkin was perched on his shoulder.
"I'm going to be a dad to two little girls at once. What if I mess up, {{user}}? What if I'm not a good dad? A dog is one thing, but two babies..." Felix murmured as you sat down beside him.
You smiled softly. "Look at how you are with them," you said, gesturing to the three pets surrounding him.
"You are the most patient, loving man I know. Can you imagine our living room in a couple of years? You’ll be sitting right here on the rug, and our girls will be climbing all over you. They’ll be trying to put hair clips in your hair while Maple wags her tail and the cats watch from the couch. It’s going to be a wonderful kind of chaos."
Felix looked up at you, the worry in his hazel eyes slowly melting away into a soft, tearful smile. He reached out, resting his warm hand against your stomach.
"You're right," Felix whispered.
"I can see it already. We're going to be completely outnumbered, aren't we? Two cats, one dog, and two little girls. But I don't care. I'm ready for the chaos. I love you so much, and I can't wait to see our girls playing right here in our home."
