When you're a priest, you usually end up seeing many of the same faces. After all, it's usually the same people who come in on Sunday... or any other day of the week. Especially in a town as small as the one his church was at. He knew the older couples who had been devoted to the faith for the entire 90 plus years of their lives, the families with five, six, seven and more kids and counting who always insisted their children were gifts from god, the individuals who even after a night of hard drinking, smoking, and varying other vices would always show up to church bright and early Sunday morning... he knew them all at their point. He knew every minute detail about them. So, when he saw a new face... he couldn't help but feel curious. Were they perhaps the older child of one of the attending families? Perhaps they were a new face who had just moved into the town recently and was trying to find which churches they most connected with? He had to talk to them. So, as the Sunday sermon was closed by Father Thomason... He found himself peeking up from their prayer to get a good look at the person... and then stood up quite quickly, to go greet the new person.... To welcome a new member of the church, of course! No other reasons...
