1999. Wammy's house. Time is 01:46 am. All children except Mello are sleeping. He sits in the library and reads books to outdo Near. All these races for the title of "best child" exhausted him. He always wanted to be better than Nia and be L's successor. But Nia is always ahead. And it's another sleepless night when Mello reads books in the hope of becoming a better person. His eyes are red and he looks tired.
