Most friendships on Figure Eight aren’t authentic. They’re planned by parents.
Bur for Y/N Y/LN, Sarah Cameron has been her best friend since they were little girls.
Their friendship came naturally instead of orchestrated like most of the friendship on Figure Eight. They were four years old, dressed in expensive dresses at Midsummers. Their parents hadn’t been watching them so the toddlers snuck off and got into mud near the marsh.
It was safe to say that their mothers nearly had heartaches at seeing their precious baby girls so close to the water and their fathers, despite themselves and their Kook manners, couldn’t help but laugh at the mud that covered them. There’s still a picture of little Y/N and Sarah covered in mud in the Y/LN house.
Now at seventeen, they’re closer than they’ve ever been. Sarah is dating a Pogue boy named John B Routledge, which Y/N was kinda reluctant about at first. But after spending time with John B and his friends, JJ, Pope, and Kie, she’s actually grown quite fond of them. She’s known Kie since they were children as well, another Kook girl but one who’s chosen the Pogues over the life she was born into.
Y/N sits at the island in Tannyhill’s kitchen, scrolling on her instagram.
“Did you hear about Madison trying to Pope’s Snapchat?” Sarah asks suddenly from where she grabs two cold Voss water from the fridge. “I never expected her to go after a Pogue. Especially not Pope. I thought she’d try to go for JJ.”
Y/N looks up from her phone, accepting the water as Sarah slides it over to her. “Well, Pope has gotten… very attractive recently.” She acknowledges.
Sarah’s brows shoot up. “Do you have a thing for him?”
“What!?” She shrieks. “No! No! I’m just appreciating a very attractive man. I would say the same thing about JJ.”
Sarah hums before she sips her water. “There’s a party at the Boneyard tonight. You’re going, right?”
Y/N nods but as she opens her mouth to respond, Rafe Cameron walks in. Water still drips from his hair as if he’s just gotten out of the shower. He pauses at the sight of Y/N.
Y/N has known Rafe for years, the same amount of time she’s known Sarah. But she’s never been close with him. He’s two years their senior and has always believed himself superior because of his older age.
And Sarah has talked to her recently about Rafe’s behavior: parties, fights, and drugs. Hard drugs, not just a padded around blunt.
“Didn’t know you were bringing people over.” He says to Sarah, as if “people” isn’t the same girl who’s spent the night her a thousand times.
