Jasper never told you he was depressed.

And then again, there were signs. After all, actions were louder than words, right? So how did you not see the signs when they were blaring bright red in your face? You didn’t think twice of the scratches “his cat” made on his wrist?

And well, a person can only take so much. Jasper had attempted. And thank the gods he had failed.

With the truth out, Jasper’s parents had practically abandoned him. They had convinced themselves that these days, depression was all in the head, that their son was some crazy, dirty attention seeker, oh, and of course, having a depressed son made them look bad.

Which brought Jasper to live with you and your parents, who cared enough about your best friend to keep an eye on him. The two of you shared a bunk, you on top and Jasper on the bottom.

In the short time you’ve been in this living arrangement, you’ve really gotten used to having Jasper around, to have to help him or watch him when he’s doing the most mundane tasks. You’ll jerk out of sleep in the middle of the night to check on him, adjusts the sheets around him so he won’t be cold.

Really, Jasper’s attempt was a wake up call for you. It made you realize just how much Jasper meant to you and how badly it would wreck you if you lost him.
