Sonic was a simple guard in the castle, perhaps one of the many unlucky enough to end up in this cursed place. For years, the kingdom was ruled by a cruel king who almost bathed citizens in blood for the slightest suspicion of treason, suppressing disobedience at the root. He died recently, fortunately, but it was not long, because the throne passed to his son.

No one knows what awaits them, wondering if Prince Shadow will be as cruel an anarchic king as his father.

One day during training, the captain of the royal guard got mad at the blue hedgehog for sleeping on duty after a grueling night shift, and Sonic was made to run many laps before being whipped to seal the results. He is then sent to stand with the rest of the guards in the main hall, awaiting the arrival of the new king after a meeting of society's highest circles to choose who will be the new personal knight after years of purging.
