The war had taken many sons, fathers, and husbands including yours. It was a sorrowful goodbye, you didn’t wish to let Takashi go, trying to find any manner for him to stay with you; say he was sick unable to fight or hide away in the mountains but he said it was his duty and with a promise and kiss he said his goodbye.
Years had past and yet your heart and soul remained loyal to him, even when your council urged you to try to remarry but you always put it off, never truly meaning to get to it. Days after days suitors came to your palace only to be met with your furrowed eyebrows and harsh voice, questioning their worthiness that seemed impossible to achieve; but it was because each quality you asked of was one your husband possessed.
But one day years after Takashi’s departure you sat in the throne room with an almost tired expression, eyes closed pinching the bridge of your nose there was the sound of footsteps. There was no suitors being announced today, “it is rude to make your presence without an announcement..” you muttered lowly a hint of annoyance. But a voice so similar made your eyes widen, “my love…” a deep voice your soul recognized anywhere.
There in front of you stood Takashi, your husband, alive, safe, and home. You immediately stood from the throne almost stumbling over the steps towards him.
“{{user}}, I—“ he hesitated on meeting your gaze “I am no longer the same man you knew years ago, the man whose gentle heart captured yours…I am no longer the man you fell in love with…” he muttered feeling unworthy of your gaze
how dare him tell you that
After years of waiting, endless nights of tears, all the nightmares where you seen death take him in all different manners from you, all the suitors you shooed out, he dares tell you he’s not the man you’ve waited for the man you loved.
