This wasn't real. It couldn't be happening, not to you. Not him.
Early on in your investigation into the Lynxley family, you'd been separated from your partners Nick and Judy. Pawbert and Gary de'Snake had shown up last minute to rescue you. For three days it was just you three. Getting to know each other, making promises to help the other, forging bonds.
At least that's what you thought.
But suddenly, Pawbert had betrayed you all. Sinking the snake venom syringe into your fur and lowering you to the freezing floor of the Tundra Town weather wall with surprising gentleness. The look in his eyes wasn't one of someone who thought he had won and wanted to flaunt it. But rather the look of someone who thought he had no other choice.
He was only turning now because he thought it was the safest option. Pawbert had confided in you sparingly about his family. Or rather, made offhanded comments about horrific treatment as though it was normal. He always deflected awkwardly when you insisted it wasn't.
"Pawbert," you said softly, shivering as the cold snow blew in through the open door. You were a Holland lop, not a snow hare. The venom in your veins was like fire, making it hard to move your limbs. As the lynx paused to look down at you, you saw the conflict deep inside.
You wanted him to give up his family, even if it was terrifying. He was your fluffle.
