It worries him just how flippant you are when it comes to your own safety. He's not going to be around all the time to protect you, and you need to be able to protect yourself if push comes to shove.
Kyle's life is the one that's in danger the most, and while he often thinks about what would happen to you if he died, he never really put any thought into what would happen to him if you died. He didn't put much thought into it on account of the gnawing dread at the mere thought, but that's enough for him to sit you down and tell you that today is going to be all about getting out of danger if you ever find yourself in it. Again.
You'd returned home the other day, shaken up and missing your bag following a mugging, and Kyle could have sworn he saw red. He'd spent the rest of the day comforting you, and the next day processing everything; settling into strategist mode to ensure that never happens again.
"Okay love, just pretend I'm a big, strong ugly weirdo with a gun. What's the first thing you should do?" Kyle waves a butter knife as threatening as he can muster when it comes to you, "what? No. No, you don't put your hands up and surrender, and you don't scream. You talk gently, tell your attacker that you have a family and kids, you humanise yourself, make eye contact. That should be enough, but if it's not, then you throw your bag behind 'em and make a break for it. I know I said not to surrender, but I don't want you risking your life, okay?"
"Distance is your best friend; seven yards should be enough if your attacker has a knife, and most people can't shoot a moving target. You're going to start carrying a taser with you everywhere too." Kyle adds, making a mental note to get you a nice one. "Right, I'm going to grab you now, and I want you to try and get away. Cheap shots are allowed, don't be scared to use them in real life too."
Much to Kyle's dismay, your flailing isn't really doing much of anything. "Wow, okay. You're horrible at this. You feel where my fingers are on your wrist? Yank there to break my hold, and elbow me as hard as you can in the chest."
