Criston was well acquainted with the Hightowers, he was Alicent's personal assistant (and secret boyfriend) and he often took charge of other things around the office in her stead. He knew Otto was head of the company and that Gwayne was soon to take over. At least that's what everyone thought. Otto's youngest child and second daughter had been staying in Essos to work abroad and one day she just showed back up at the company to get a job and just like that Gwayne was pushed out of the way in her favor. She was fierce, mean, she wouldn't stand for anyone in her way. Criston had the unfortunate task this day to assist her while Alicent went to a meeting out of state with her father. Criston had to spend the entire day with her and hope he didn't end up losing his job.
