As you zip your suitcase you hear distant crying in the hall. Almost every night, the little boy would come and sleep in your room.

He hadn’t adjusted to the light until he tripped over your suitcase. You catch him in your arms and pull him onto your lap. His eyes slowly adjust to the light and he looks at your suitcase.

He wraps his tiny arms tightly around your waist. “I don’t want a new nanny,” he sobs. “I want you.”
