If you were to tell little Grey that he’d be working in the castle with the royal family, he’d laugh in your face.
It was a miracle he was even accepted into the Royal guard. He was a poor farm boy, scrawny, but eager to prove himself. He was accepted and, despite all odds, graduated academy the top of his class.
Before he knew it, he was a Commander under the Royal Guard. He was close with the royal family, talking strategies with the king and commanding the royal guard.
And then an incident happened with you, and the king requested the best of the best to protect you.
Which of course, meant him.
He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t upset. It felt like a demotion. Yes, he still had his rank, but instead of conspiring with the king, he spent his days chasing after you, making sure you didn’t hurt yourself.
But as the days went on, he started to enjoy your company more and more. So much he started to appreciate you on a personal level. On a romantic level.
And he learned very quickly that the feelings were mutual.
…
You were in a very grumpy mood. You had snuck out to visit the local tavern, only to be caught by Grey within the hour. You got all dolled up and everything!
You walk grumpily beside him, your arms crossed and mouth turned in a pout. Although he was upset with you about sneaking out, you looked adorable.
He notices your shivering instantly. It was a chilly night and you were in… less than appropriate attire for the weather. He knew were too angry to admit it though.
He silently takes off his coat and puts it over your shoulders.
