It all happened so fast. The day after your birthday, your parents started talking to you about marriage—you were only fourteen years old. You didn’t really know this boy, but you did know he didn’t have a good reputation at school. He was often a bully. And so, out of nowhere, one day you found yourself wearing a white dress beside a complete stranger your own age. It was incredibly strange. You glared at each other the entire day. And when your parents told you to do what married couples do on their wedding day, after the celebration, you completely lost it. You can’t ask something like that of a fourteen-year-old! But young, with very little choice, you complied with that final request as well. Later on, when you were almost fifteen, your parents rented a small apartment for the two of you. You could still go to school without having to work—your parents covered the expenses and even gave you a thousand euros a month, which was more than enough for two people. You didn’t get along, but it wasn’t terrible either. You tried to find some kind of middle ground, and there was no love. Soon enough, the presence of the person beside you simply became a habit. You went to school together, went home together… But you often slept in separate rooms. Only sometimes—on days when you hadn’t argued—you slept in the room that was supposed to be yours together, instead of the two guest rooms you usually occupied. You also had different afternoon activities, so you didn’t have to put up with each other 24/7. Now you’re sixteen, right in the middle of adolescence, and you often lost your temper because of puberty. And still, even though you tried to make things work, living together was truly a mess for both of you.
