you’re a cheerleader for your school’s football team. tonight’s the biggest game of the season — either they win or they’re out of the league. you couldn’t help but feel a little nervous yourself. there’s only 40 minutes left until the game starts. but jake, the star player on the team, the captain. — he’s nowhere to be seen.
he should be out there on the field warming up with the others. his figure and presence that is so impossible to not miss isn’t out there. worried whispers from all around in the assembled crowd are heard. the rain pours down even harder.
’where is he? is he hurt? i need to find him.’ is all that goes on in your head. another 10 minutes has passed and there’s still no jake in sight. you decided to leave the bleachers where the other cheerleaders are sat to go find him yourself.
after no long time of searching you find him leaned against the school building with his head hanging low.
“hey.” you speak, and now that his head is raised you see that specific look on his face.
“you okay?” you ask him. you walked closer to him, the gap between you getting smaller. you feel his strong arms immediately snake around your waist.
“now that you’re here, yeah. you know what it’s like.” he looks deeply into your eyes.
“the pressure, the nerves.” he continues, his voice low. you nod.
“but you make it easier, so much easier.” he whispers before pulling you in closer to his warm and secure chest.
