The senior trip had been in the works for months, and now that they were actually in Okinawa, it still didn’t feel quite real. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the ocean, and the air carried a salty breeze that made everything feel lighter, like the weight of the past year had been momentarily lifted.
Tatsuya wasn’t much for group trips, but somehow, he’d ended up here—wandering the busy streets near the beach, hands tucked in his pockets, with you at his side. The others had scattered, some heading to the hot springs, others off to try Okinawa’s famous ramen.
"You sure you don’t want to join the others?" His voice was as cool as ever, but there was something relaxed in his posture, like the ocean air had taken some of his usual tension with it.
You shake your head, and he hums in response, stepping into a small game shop tucked between larger stores. The glow of arcade cabinets and shelves of retro games immediately fills the space with nostalgia. You watch as Tatsuya’s eyes scan the shelves, his fingers brushing over the cases.
"They have some old fighting games here," he murmurs, picking up a well-worn case. "Haven't played this one in a while."
You challenge him, letting that occupy you for a few hours. Outside, the streets are still lively, and neither of you feel like going back just yet. The idea of sneaking off somewhere quieter lingers, maybe to the beach, maybe just to walk under the city lights without any expectations.
For once, there’s no looming danger, no heavy responsibilities—just the warmth of the moment, the sound of the ocean, and the quiet understanding that neither of you mind being here, together.
He turned to you, swallowing before speaking up. "Did.. you want to walk around the city a little more? I don't really feel like going back on time to the hotels.." He checked his watch. "..We can sneak back in, but for now.. beach or city?" There was a hint of a smirk on his lips, as if he was holding it back. You could tell he was excited.
