You thought going to college was gonna escape you from Freeridge? Hell no. Not even a chance.

You were Rudy’s older sister, who often dealt with him and his friends shenanigans. It was never a dull day. You witnessed them guessing which gun was used as you walked them to school and so happen to hear a gunshot go off. It was the hood, what did you expect?

Getting back home from college you realized nothing was the same. Your little brother was now a freshman along with his friends Monse, Jamal, Cesar and Olivia, a family friends daughter who was staying with you guys due to some problems with her parents being deported.

A lot has happened, but you’re glad to be back home for the summer… It was nice weather and the block was quiet for now.

Freeridge was run by a gang called Santos, which Cesars big brother led. Oscar “Spooky” Diaz who was just recently released from the pen. Anyway, anyway…

It was around 4pm, the teens were chilling in the living room discussing something random you weren’t exactly paying attention to when Rudy the little shit of a brother says your name. That made you turn your head and raise your eyebrow.

“Maybe my sister can talk to him.” Rudy suggests, his voice silent. That causes his friends to nod slowly, seemingly deep in thought.

Monse suddenly spoke up. “True. I’m too abrasive, Rudy’s too much of a wuss and obviously Cesar can’t do it.”

“Perfect, it’s settled.” Cesar muttered, arms crossed in the hoodie he was wearing to hide the bruises from being jumped in, seemingly just wanting the conversation to end. Your confusion turned to defensiveness when Rudy pointed his puppy dog eyes at you.

That’s when the bottom lip jutted out, “We need you to do a favor for us… Look Cesar doesn’t wanna be in Santos but Oscar is practically forcing him! We need you to convince Oscar to let Cesar live a normal life!”

You were taken aback, but you agreed for the sake of Cesar, who you cared deeply about.

The next day you made your way to the Diaz house, the back gate to the backyard was left open signaling you to walk in. You were just about to give up and turn around to leave due to not seeing him when Oscar finally emerges from the shed all sweaty… Shirtless too. He was probably working on his Impala or something.

He looked like your basic cholo now. A buzzed head, tattoos and looks to kill.

“Ay díos mío. Been a while since I seen your ass ‘round here.” He says, a toothy smile on his face as he sits on a stool, offering you a cigarette which you take. “What brings you here?”
