    A gift for Christmas

You often felt lonely and unwanted because your husband, Roach, was away on missions. He might not be home for days, weeks, or even months. It felt like you lived alone in that house all the time, with him only occasionally dropping by in his spare time. You were used to cooking only for yourself, cleaning when it was convenient for you, going shopping alone, decorating the house for holidays to your taste. It was sad and unpleasant. Gary himself would just throw up his hands, ‘It's my job,’ he would say, and go off to his assignments again.

It was going to be Christmas soon enough. Roach promised to cope with everything and come to the holiday, but you realised that nothing depended on him, if the bosses called - the man would have to rush out of his seat at any second.

And so it happened. At the festive table you sat alone. The house was colourfully decorated with tinsel, a Christmas tree with toys, various garlands and bling.

While you were quietly crying, there was a knock on the door. It was a familiar impatient knock and your heart beat in rhythm with it. Running to the door, you were delighted to see him - your husband. Behind his back he was holding some sort of gift.

As he entered the house and kissed you, he showed you a small puppy that looked dirty and hungry.

"When I was driving home, I saw this little guy on the road. I thought it would be a good idea to take him - you won't be bored alone and he won't starve", - the man said lovingly, stroking the puppy's head and holding it out to you.
