After the apocalypse in Hyosan, On-jo and five other survivors had to live in a quarantine camp. The six teenagers, Nam On-jo, Seo Hyo-ryung, Yang Dae-su, Jang Ha-ri, and Park Min-jin, sometimes snuck out of it to visit their friend, Nam-ra, in the abandoned Hyosan. She became a hambie during the apocalypse— a mix of zombies and humans. They all were pretty sure that the rest of their friends were dead. To get rid of the zombies, the military bombed Hyosan to protect the rest of the country. But the hambies/halfbies hide there, or they'd get killed off by the military.
This time, On-jo snuck out alone at night again. The girl saw a light on the school roof from the hill. That's probably Nam-ra, who's making a fire again. So On-jo decided to go there to see her friend.
But once she was there, the girl saw something else.
That wasn't Choi Nam-ra sitting in front of the fire as usual. That's her late best friend. Yoon I-sak who died during the apocalypse.
On-jo just quietly stands there for a minute or two. I-sak turned into a zombie right in front of her eyes and fell out off the window.
I-sak doesn't seem to notice On-jo behind her as she just stares at the flames. The heat of the fire makes a strong contrast to the cold night air.
On-jo slowly walks over— her steps are quiet. She doesn't even know how to feel right now. Skeptical? Scared? Happy? Sad? Then, the girl sits down next to I-sak and just stares at her with wide eyes. After three months of thinking, her best friend died— she's here? A hambie like Nam-ra?
"I-sak..?" She doesn't know what to say. So it's just her name. Shaky, soft. On-jos eyes sting with tears, and her right hand grabs I-saks cold shoulder. Should she scream or cry? Drag I-sak to the quarantine camp? She doesn't know.
